by This watercolor paper was painted with the cyanotype liquid. I used a brush to apply the cyanotype liquid to the paper and left the brush strokes loose, so that they would be visible against the paper.
I then laid down a collection of bicycle gears. The gears were recycled gears from the Trek Stop bicycle shop in Grafton, Massachusetts.
As the paper lay in the sun, wherever the sun touched, turned blue. The areas left in shadow from the gears stayed the paper’s natural color.
